Our Story
The Black Thumb Beginning
Let's be honest — I was a plant killer. Every succulent, every "impossible to kill" pothos, every clearance rack rescue from Lowe's... they all met the same fate. I wanted to be a plant person so badly, but my thumb was the blackest of black.
Enter: My Little Sister
My little sister is the real deal. She can look at a plant and just know what it needs. She's the one who sat me down and taught me the basics — like how overwatering kills more plants than underwatering, and that "bright indirect light" doesn't mean "on the windowsill in direct sun."
She taught me almost everything I know. Patient, encouraging, and never making me feel dumb for drowning another succulent. She turned my black thumb green, one plant at a time.
100+ Plants Later
Now I have over 100 plants. I propagate regularly. I trade cuttings with people in Charlotte. I'm the person my friends text photos to when their leaves turn yellow. It still feels surreal.
I built My Plant Family to share what my sister taught me — and what I've learned through a lot of trial and error since. I want to be the patient, encouraging voice for new plant owners that she was for me.
What's Coming
This site started as a way to help people, but it's also becoming something more. My sister has an incredible gift with plants and we want to share her gifts with you. Soon, you'll be able to buy her beautiful propagations and plants right here. Plants are her joy, and this space is for her to share her joy and wisdom along the way.
For now, dig into the plant care guides, check out what's happening in Charlotte's plant community, and join the family. Welcome. 🌿
